{"id":437,"date":"2013-10-20T15:02:33","date_gmt":"2013-10-20T11:02:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armeniancause.net\/?p=437"},"modified":"2013-10-22T15:05:04","modified_gmt":"2013-10-22T11:05:04","slug":"first-genocide-monument-in-canada-inaugurated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armeniancause.net\/?p=437","title":{"rendered":"First Genocide Monument in Canada Inaugurated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/armeniancause.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Laval-Genocide-statue.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-438\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/armeniancause.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Laval-Genocide-statue-300x171.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/armeniancause.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Laval-Genocide-statue-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/armeniancause.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Laval-Genocide-statue.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>LAVAL, Quebec (<a title=\"Horizon Weekly\" href=\"http:\/\/www.horizonweekly.ca\/news\/details\/21798\" target=\"_blank\">Horizon Weekly<\/a>)\u2014The Canadian-Armenian community gathered on Sunday for the unveiling ceremony of an Armenian Genocide monument here, the third largest city in Quebec and the first Armenian Genocide monument in Canada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this unveiling, the Canadian-Armenian community renewed its dedication and commitment to our national demands and to the Armenian Cause.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leaders of all Armenian denominations gathered at the monument, called \u201cCrucifixion, Resurrection, Rebirth,\u201d and performed the religious blessing ceremony, while community leaders, among them the chairman of the Joint Monument Committee, Sako Yacoubian, committee member, Hovig Tufenkndjian and chairman of Canada\u2019s Genocide Centennial Committee, Mher Karakashian all expressed the Canadian-Armenian community\u2019s commitment to justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The monument\u2019s creator, sculptor Arto Tchakmakdjian, said the meaning of the monument is hope.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also speaking at the event was Armenia\u2019s Ambassador to Canada Armen Yeganian who called on the international community to recognize the Armenian Genocide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Local, regional and federal officials, past and present, were in attendance at the event and spoke about the need for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and condemned the government of Turkey for its continued denial of the crime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAVAL, Quebec (Horizon Weekly)\u2014The Canadian-Armenian community gathered on Sunday for the unveiling ceremony of an Armenian Genocide monument here, the third largest city in Quebec and the first Armenian Genocide monument in Canada.
